The Martini
A true martini consists of only two ingredients: gin or vodka and dry vermouth. As simple as it sounds, the martini is one of the easiest cocktails to mix improperly. Omit the vermouth, or other fortified wine, and it's no longer a martini. It's simply vodka or gin up. Martinis can be shaken, stirred, or rested depending upon the drinker's preference. Personally, I always go for stirred but that's just me. This is, in our opinion, the perfect martini recipe.
Recipe:
4oz Vodka or Gin
0.5oz splash Dolin Blanc dry vermouth
Fill a coupe or martini glass with ice and vermouth. Set aside. Add vodka or gin to a mixing pitcher and stir for 10-15 seconds. Discard the ice and vermouth from the glass and "flick" out the rest of the vermouth in the glass. Whatever remains after a single flick is the perfect amount. Strain gin or vodka into the glass and garnish with a lemon twist, an olive, or my personal favorite a blue cheese stuffed olive. Garnish with a cocktail onion and the martini becomes a Gibson.
